“Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.” Words to live by! Miss Party is envisioning a future full of eco-conscious celebrations! It’s getting easier than ever before to reduce each party’s footprint without sacrificing style.
Reduce what goes into the trash and our landfills by reusing what you can before you buy more and recycling anything that can be repurposed, passed onto someone else or is made of recyclable materials. See “Forever Green”, Part 2 – BEST, BETTER and WORST eco-party choices!” for eco-party planning lists to give you lots of ideas for how you can make a difference towards reducing your parties’ footprints.
Everything in the photos above are either: made from a percentage of recycled or renewable materials; made of a material that can be washed and reused, or can be rinsed and recycled. Miss Party purchased eco-party goods that were readily available in her local party and paper stores. She wanted to prove to herself that she could find attractive eco-party goods without a lot of fuss. Can Miss Party just say she is in LOVE with the melamine mock ‘paper plates’ and ‘disposable drinking cups’! They look just like the real (non-recyclable) thing!
Some choices are pretty easy to make and you may already do them without thinking of them as ‘earth-friendly’–you may already use washable fabric tablecloths instead of disposable plastic tablecloths. Some decisions are made for cost-cutting reasons first, but also happen to be earth-friendly –you’ve invested in several china serving platters and naturally reuse them instead of buying disposable party platters each time you entertain. While still other party planning decisions may be tough to concede to aesthetically or are even non-negotiable –Miss Party would have a super tough time giving up paper invitations for an e-invitation so her concession is to use paper made with some recycled post consumer content. The central point is to do what you can do to reduce the waste and, thereby, reduce each party’s footprint.
Manufacturers are finally getting wise to the eco-educated customer who lets her money do the talking by choosing eco-friendly, chemical-free, organic products over cheaper, non-eco products in ALL areas of her family’s lives. Buyers and manufacturer’s are way past ‘socially late’ to the eco-party, but they’re finally starting to carry party products that are attractive and stylish when compared to non-eco alternatives. The more they get the message loud and clear that consumers want eco-friendly, human-healthy AND (not or) stylish party goods, the more often we will magically find them on our shelves, such is the way of supply and DEMAND. There’s just no reason why eco-party goods can’t be beautiful as well!
