“Ribbons and Bows!” Glam-inspired Theme – Once tied, twice remembered!

Is it just Miss Party or are we seeing ribbons and bows on everything this year from shoes, to sundresses, to pillows? Bows, bows and more bows! Large bows, petite bows, satin bows and patent bows! Use the ubiquitous ribbons and bows to inspire a chic and feminine party theme for a shower or women-only party.

Miss Party became consciously aware of the trend during her visit to Paris this spring. So many of the Paris windows displayed chic fashions, designer shoes and accessories adorned with ribbons and bows that it caught her eye. Notice all the hats in the Milliner’s shop window with bows? Once home again, she noticed the trend in the spring and summer designer shoe and purse collections. So what can we do with a ‘ribbons and bows’ glam-theme?

Once you’ve decided on your color scheme, set your ‘ribbons and bows’ theme right away by incorporating a narrow, satin ribbon tied into a small bow on each party invitation. You might play off the adage, “Once tied, twice remembered!”, that suggests tying a ribbon around your finger will help you remember something. It might be fun to ask your guests to ‘dress’ for the theme by incorporating something with a bow in their party attire.

From the invitation, just keep going with party decor. Tie satin ribbon bows around floral arrangement vases, around napkins/cutlery, adorn your cake with marzipan ribbons and bows and/or the cake plate. Make festive ‘Tower of Gifts’ centerpieces with satin ribbon bows and streamers for food and dining tables. Adorn wine glass stems or teacup handles with 1/4 inch satin ribbons tied into bows. Tie large fabric bows to dining chair backs; around sofa pillows, and tie into greenery garlands draped along railings. Tie wide satin ribbon bows around large, glass cylinders filled with color-coordinated candies.

Add touches of sparkle and shine wherever you can to enhance the glamorous, feminine feeling of the theme. Miniature white lights, white votive candles or sparkling crystal add to the glamorous drama in the evening. If an afternoon tea, use your best china and silver to set the tone.
